Dementia

Supporting a loved one with dementia can be a challenging task. We would like to provide you with some resources to support you in this journey.

There is an awesome resource database on NorthStar Dementia's website. This is an organization in Bermuda that is specifically designed to assess and support people living with dementia. This is useful because the staff have extensive knowledge and training around the kinds of resources, activities for cognitive stimulation that they need as well as providing the opportunity to connect with others that have shared experience.

Other resources of note include:

  • Dementia Bermuda is a fantastic resource in Bermuda that provides CST programming, information about dementia care, and caregiver support groups.

  • BEAMS Bermuda is a local Bermudian organization that provides a multitude of services to help patients, families, and caregivers. They conduct dementia assessments as well as maintenance visits.

  • The Ministry of Social Development and Seniors Dementia Care Campaign is another good starting place. The government launched this campaign in support of individuals living with dementia and their caregivers. Watch the informative videos with local professionals and experts in the field in addition to taking advantage of the complimentary helpcards used to educate community members and provide a safety measure for persons living with dementia.

Support

When it comes to navigating aggressive or harmful behaviours, we recommend connecting with Ageing and Disability services (292-7802). They may be able to provide support and social work resources to support these outbursts. Some additional information sources include:
